Genesis 2:9
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Our Father and our God, thank You for daily loading us with benefits, chief among them being the gift of life. To You alone be all the glory, honour, and adoration, in Jesus name. Amen.
Beloved in this post we want to talk about something most people do about this period of Christmas season. It's good as christians that we understand why certain things which we see are done. We want to talk about the Christmas Tree. Our homes, offices, streets, churches, etc are lavishly decorated with beautiful linens and ribbons of same colours. In the early times candles were lit near the trees but these days christmas lights in strings are hung around the tree.
There are so many stories about the Christmas Tree.
The idea of the Christmas tree started centuries ago around central Europe, Germany precisely.
There, the feast of Adam and Eve was celebrated yearly around the 24th December.
Remember that Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit from a tree. The 2nd Adam who was Jesus came as the Tree of Life and gave us everlasting life.
Fir and Pine Trees which remain evergreen all year round are used as Chrostmas Trees which signifies the Eternal Life in Christ Jesus.
In John 15vs1, Jesus told us that He is The Tree of life when He said ' I am the True Vine' If you also look at Genesis 2vs9, the tree that Adam ate from was the tree of knowledge and evil. This was why God chased them out of the garden lest they eat from the tree of life which was also in the garden and live forever. Genesis 3vs23-34.
Jesus is the Tree of Life. He is Evergreen with life. He died and rose again. To me the Christmas Tree reminds me of what Adam and Eve did in the garden of Eden, which Christ our Ever living Tree of Life restored when He died and rose again. The glory that was lost in the beginning by Adam was restored through Christ and we now have Eternal Life which is life without end with God in the hereafter.
The fruits hung on the Tree represent the 12 kinds of fruits (fruit of the Spirit) which the Tree of Life bears every month.
Revelation 22vs2.
The Evergreen nature of the Trees signifies Eternal Life. The lights hung on the Tree signifies The Light of God that lights the world exposing every darkness.
Note, all decorations are done on Christmas eve 24th December and has to be removed after 12 days from Christmas day.
The Christmas Tree is not actually a decoration but a symbol of Eternal Life in Christ Jesus wherever it is set up.
God alone is my Source of health and strength.
MEMORY VERSE.
Genesis 2:16-17
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
PRAYERS.
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Jesus who is the Tree of Life for those of us hoping for eternity with God.
