Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Today we want to talk about Jesus as our Counsellor.
Who is a Counsellor?
Someone who is trained and filled with wisdom to offer advice or assistance to individuals with personal challenges.
Jesus was described when He was growing up, as to have increased in WISDOM, STATURE AND FAVOUR both with God and man.
Luke 2vs52.
In the Bible days kings like Pharaoh, David, Nebuchadnezzar etc surrounded themselves with wise men as their counsellors.
One of such renowned Counsellors was Ahitophel.
2 Samuel 16vs23.
One of the names with which Jesus was called by Isaiah when he gave the prophecy about His birth is COUNSELLOR. This presents Jesus, The Saviour of the world, our Emmanuel as our Counsellor who was filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, as the God who He is.
Jesus Himself while on earth told us that He will not leave us just like that but that He will pray the Father to send us another Comforter which is His Spirit.
John 14vs16.
Ì wish to let us know that while Jesus was on earth, He could only be in one place at a time. After His ressurrection on the 3rd day, and His ascension to heaven after 40days on earth, God sent us the Spirit of Jesus who is the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.
Acts 2vs1-4.
This Spirit of Jesus is our Comforter who is with us as individuals to help us serve God better and He is in us to console, comfort, deliver us and do all other works in us. His work as our Counsellor is to Teach, Help, Guide, Direct, be our Remenbrancer, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby. He is with us to Help our life.
Are There Biblical Examples Of Those Jesus Counselled?
Yes, there are.
In John 4vs21-30, Jesus met a woman at the well in Samaria, counselled her and at the end she ran off and brought her entire city to Jesus and they were all converted.
In John 5vs6-10, Jesus went to meet a man at the pool of Bethesda who was sick and had laid there for 38 years. At the end of the day, the man rose up after a sesson with Jesus, took up his bed having been totally delivered and went home.
Beloved that time of prayers that you invite the Holy Spirit to come in and help you, the Counsellor is there to help, guide, direct and remind you what to pray about. That time you are led to intercede and pray for someone, the Counsellor is at work, that time you want to take a step of faith, make a decision, and so on and so forth the Counsellor is at work.
Jesus our great Counsellor is with us and is ever ready to guide us into all truths.
As you surrender your life fully to the Lord, seek to please Him faithfully and He will help you.
God alone is my Source of health and strength.
MEMORY VERSE
John 14vs16, 18, 26.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
PRAYERS
Thank You Lord Jesus, for the work of A Great Counsellor which You are doing in my life. I do not take it for granted in Jesus name. Amen.
